CLIENTS CHALLENGE

Our client is one of the creators of the “workboat” industry. They transport crews and supplies, tows and anchors mobile rigs and assist in offshore construction projects. In addition, they also perform a variety of specialised marine support services.

One of their AHTS (Anchor Handling Tug Supply) in the Middle East had a watermaker designed for North Sea conditions. Therefore, it produced far less water than its actual capacity.

The client needed a watermaker that produced the required volume of freshwater irrespective of the ambient conditions.

OUR SOLUTION

They had worked with Advanced Watertek in the past. Hence, they knew we would support them with our technical expertise and experience. The main challenge was to provide a watermaker with a maximum skid size to avoid modification on the vessel.

The Advanced Watertek solution was to design and commission 1 no 10m3/day water maker. Great care was especially given to the design. As a result, the system could produce the required freshwater volume within the acceptable quality standards, also under the harsh Middle Eastern conditions.

SCOPE OF WORK

System capacity:            50 tons/day

Design basis:                  42,000 ppm

Process guarantee:        Less than 500 ppm @ 25 deg C

Power supply:                 440-480V, 60 Hz

PROJECT RESULT

The system was installed and commissioned by Advanced Watertek engineers. The treated water quality met all of the client’s parameters.

We customised the skid to fit inside the available hatch and supplied it in parts. Our team reassembled the entire unit on-board the vessel. To make the maintenance easy, we provided a very robust plunger-type high-pressure pump. This pump requires little technical knowhow to maintain.

The system still is performing within the operating parameters set by the client, reducing operating and water purchasing costs and saving money.
