For many coastal and island resorts, seawater is the only water source available, and desalination is thus the only solution. This is the case for the newly built luxurious Wild Coast Tented Lodge, by Dilmah Group, located at Yala, South-East of Sri Lanka. Because of the remote location and arid geographical conditions, the resort doesn’t have access to municipality water. Hence the only way to provide freshwater to guests and staff is through desalination of seawater.
Yala has an extremely rough coastline with rock formations on the beach. These types of environments often create damage to the intake pipes and pumps.
Time is always very critical for new resorts opening. The installation and commissioning of a reliable Reverse Osmosis (RO) system can become a bottleneck in the development. A delay in freshwater supply will delay the opening and subsequently create a loss of business.
The resort management contacted us with less than 40 days to operation, and time was critical. Still, Advanced Watertek designed, manufactured, shipped and installed a fully automatic and compact RO solution within the given timeframe.

The system was installed and commissioned by Advanced Watertek engineers. The treated water quality met all of the client’s parameters.
As a resort can’t experience interrupted water supply, so they needed a reliable solution that took account for the rough coastline and the water intake. Our service engineers, together with our local agent Enviroplus Engineers, visited the site a dozen of times to ensure we found the best solution to avoid broken intake pipes and pumps. As a result an additional pre-filtration system was established to counter the silt from the open sea intake. We followed up closely after the system started to operate to ensure that we had gone for the right pre-filtration
The system still is performing since June 2012 within the operating parameters set by the client, reducing operating and water purchasing costs and saving money.
