Brackish water contains relatively unacceptable levels of dissolved salts and minerals. Depending on the application, it can be ranged from 1,000 to 10,000 ppm and high brackish is 10,000 to 15,000 ppm.

Brackish water desalination gained wide acceptance in the mid eighties when the R.O. membrane industry delivered robust membranes that can handle cleaning, biofouling and high operating pressure yet deliver reliably for many years.
